seo or ppc 150x150 SEO or PPC, Which One Should You Use?

Many people think that PPC marketing is a waste of money while others view’s SEO as unworthy. In reality, the two marketing strategies form a perfect combination.

Pay-Per-Click – PPC

PPC marketing is a “love it” or “hate platform”. For the “love it” crowd, PPC marketing is a way to get instant exposure and feedback on site designs. In a matter of minutes, you can start receiving traffic and adjusting your site to convert the traffic at the best rate possible. for more details visit to overall marketing strategy, both platforms will deliver the goods.

For those in the “hate it” crowd, bids are to high and one never knows how may of the clicks are fake and worthless. When starting out, the PPC campaign is critical for getting immediate traffic and tweaking the site to maximize conversions.

Search Engine Optimization – SEO

As with PPC, SEO marketing has its proponents and detractors. Those who love it look at the free traffic and glorious profitability of a site that converts the traffic at a decent rate. Detractors view SEO as an unnecessary waste of time since it can take a year or more to get high rankings, particularly on Google. Detractors also argue that high listings are subject to changes in the search engine ranking process, which means you can lose your rankings.

So, who is right? In truth, both sides make accurate arguments. PPC is expensive and click fraud is a monstrous problem. SEO produces free traffic, but it takes along time to get to the top and rankings are subject to the whims of search engine ranking changes. The truth, of course, is both marketing platforms should be used whenever possible.

Internet Marketing Strategy

Every site is unique and special, but mostly combine PPC and SEO marketing as part of an overall internet marketing strategy for better outputs. When starting out, the PPC campaign is critical for getting immediate traffic and tweaking the site to maximize conversions. At the same time, a SEO campaign should be undertaken. Detractors also argue that high listings are subject to changes in the search engine ranking process, which means you can lose your rankings. As the site rises in search results, the PPC campaign should be fazed out for the relevant high listings. SEO is important because it covers most of the key areas that marketers need to address while selling and advertising online – it generates awareness, it leads to acquisition of customers and conversion of visitors to customers, and optimizes the marketing efforts to target buyers.

Usually, people who are new to the website world, their attraction is towards the concept of free web hosting plan’s. As they are not aware of the fact involved in a free web hosting plan, until they go for it. Should understand that, a paid web host provider has got better services to suggest, compared to free hosts. Free web hosting facility is suitable for personal homepages and other types of websites which are not depending on online advertising or sales revenues. A paid hosting service is ideal for business, who are interested in online selling or just want professional web presence with regard to their growing business.

You might be looking for an appropriate host for your website and then you suddenly you think, “why should I pay for a web hosting plan, when I can get for free for my website?” Usually this depends on the type of website that you are dealing with. With a free hosting plan, you might end up being frustrated due to various reasons. Some of the points are explained as follows:

Down time is common in free hosting plans: It is common to experience downtime issues with free web hosts. Since you do not pay for the service, free hosting providers feel less obligated to offer good service. The free web hosting providers don’t really value a free subscriber, since they feel that this group is not really beneficial to them. Hence, free web hosting providers are not bothered if their users are dissatisfied with the service.

Free flow of advertisement: In a free hosting service, you will definitely be disturbed by constant, unwanted ads on all your web pages. You may even see a pop up banner as soon as you click a link etc. You can hardly do anything about this situation because many free hosts rely solely on these advertisements in order to make money. So, you must be aware of the fact that these advertisements will reduce your professional image just because you have opted for a free web hosting plan.

Bad customer support: Most of the free web hosting providers cannot effort to provide customer support facility to their users. In such a case, it is always better to rely on the FAQ page (frequently asked question). The FAQ can come to your rescue when in case, live or email support is denied by the free web hosting provider.

Restricted hard disk space: Think twice before you opt for a free web host. If your website is large enough, you might then experience free web host being quite limited. Mostly, free hosts can provide hard disk space of about 5 to 10MB. You will experience difficulties when your website is growing and you are thinking of expanding your website beyond your allotted disk space.

Lengthy domain names: In a free hosting plan, customers are not allowed to use their own names, as in the case of paid hosts. Those users who are opting for free hosting services are required to choose a sub domain off the host’s name. Thus, you land up having a lengthy domain name for your website. Visitors will find it difficult to remember your lengthy domain name. Hence, you are then likely to loose potential customers. If customers want to access your website, they will have to bookmark your site instead of depending on their own memory.

Lot’s of people confuse marketing with advertising. Although both are important equally, they are very different as well. If you know the differences between marketing with advertising, you can put your company on the fast track to success.

Let’s start with reviewing the definitions of each and then, will explain how marketing and advertising are different from each other.

Advertising: The paid, public, non-personal announcement of a persuasive message by an identified sponsor; the non-personal presentation or promotion by a firm of its products to its existing and potential customers.

Marketing: The systematic planning, implementation and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring together buyers and sellers for the mutually advantageous exchange or transfer of products.

After reading both of the definitions, it is easy to understand how the differences can be confusing to the point that most people think of them as one and the same. So, let’s clear up the confusion.

Advertising is but a single component of the marketing process.

Advertising entails publicizing your business, product, or services you are offering. It involves the process of developing strategies such as ad placement, frequency, etc. Advertising includes the placement of an ad in such mediums as newspapers, yellow pages, television, radio, and of course the Internet. Advertising is the single largest expenditure of most marketing campaigns.

The best way to distinguish between advertising and marketing is the pie chart. Mentally visualize breaking the pie chart down into several slices that include advertising, product pricing, distribution, customer service, sales strategy, etc.

Using this method, you can see, advertising only equals one slice of the pie in the marketing strategy. All of these components must not only work independently, but they also must work in unison towards the ultimate goal of publicizing your business and obtaining customers.

Marketing, on the other hand, is simply a process that an organization goes through to facilitate an exchange between buyer and seller.

I deal with many questions from curious website owners everyday. One question I have a new answer for is, “Should I use META tags on my site when do search engine optimization?” Old Answer: It couldn’t hurt, but don’t worry about them, the search engines ignore them for the most part. New answer? Read on…

Should I really use a META tag? Really?

The new answer is yes, you should use META tags on your site. The keyword META tag is still not used by search engines but when submitting to directories, a valuable use of time by the way, the META keywords are used in many cases to automatically fill in the keywords for your site in that directory.

Even more amazingly, the META description tag has soared in importance. How so you ask? Google has started showing the META description in its search results when certain criteria are met.

The criteria being used appears to be very simple, unlike many of the other things Google does. When the keyword or search terms appear in the META description, the META description is used instead of the snippet of text containing the keyword on your page.

For example, if you do a search in Google for ‘Big Oak SEO’ you will see our site in the first listing and the description used is our META description tag. All three words being searched for are also in our META description.

If you do a search for ‘big oak client’ you will see the first listing is pulling a snippet of text from the page itself. Since ‘client’ is not in our META description, it uses a snippet of text from the page where all three words can be found.

Where should you use a META description tag?

Every website should use a META description tag on the home page at the very least. This way you can say exactly what you want and not worry the snippet of text being used is not best choice for your message. What this really means is Google is giving us some measure of control.

And now that we have this knowledge and control, how best to use it? This allows us to take off our search engine optimizer hats and don our search engine marketer hats. Think of what you can say in the brief sentence that will entice a user to click your link rather than the one above or below. You can put your phone number in the META description for starters or how about being really creative and offer a discount or advertise a sale. Tell them your unique selling proposition. It should be a one sentence phrase already in your head. The only caveat to remember is that your META description will only show if the search term is in the META description. While this can be tricky, it can be done with some forethought. You can do this for all of your targeted pages and have dozens of marketing messages.

Use the META description wisely: target your market and entice your customers. Do not abuse this control and put outlandish, untrue or slanderous statements as I am sure Google will be watching; and if this technique is abused the META description may have seen it last search result this time.

social bookmarking 150x150 Get Website Traffic From Social Bookmarking

As you know, traffic to your website is essential for your business. You need to have visitors come to your website, especially visitors who are predisposed to purchase your products and services. But getting traffic to your site can be a real challenge especially for fairly new websites.

There are many ways to get more website traffic. The quickest way is to use pay per click advertising, but that can get expensive very quickly and you must track your conversions to be successful. Article marketing is also a good way to get traffic over the long term, but that can take a great deal of work and some patience. Unfortunately there is no magic bullet solution to getting more traffic. You simply must use a combination of approaches to make it happen.

The good news is that there are some new and/or often overlooked methods of getting traffic that can indeed be quite effective especially when used in combination with the more established techniques like paid advertising and article marketing. One of the best such techniques is using social bookmarking websites.

Social bookmarking is a web phenomenon that has come into existence over the past couple of years. The basic idea is that instead of a user saving his or her bookmarked website links on their home computer, instead the user saves them in an online account. Bookmark links in this online account exist in public pages on the website, so a link to your website on a social bookmarking site counts as a backlink to your website. Furthermore, social bookmarking websites usually have high pagerank in Google so a backlink can have a good amount of link value. While it is rumored that Google has been decreasing the value it assigns to these links over the past year, it is still true that a large set of social bookmarking links can help increase the web site rankings of your website.

It is also true that social bookmarking sites were set up so that people can share their bookmarks. As a result, people can often arrive at your bookmarked website simply through exploring other people’s bookmarked links on these sites. So your site can achieve a certain amount of social verification by being listed on these bookmarking sites and can get some direct traffic that way.

So how do you get these social bookmarking links. There are dozen or perhaps hundreds of such sites, although the most common ones include Delicious, Furl, and StumpbleUpon. Usually you just sign up on these sites and download and install a social bookmarking toolbar in your browser. Then when you find a site you like, such as the site you wish to promote, simply click a toolbar icon and it will create a bookmark link for you. In some cases you may be prompted to add some written information about the site.

The main problem with social bookmarking your own sites is that there is only one of you, so you can get only one link to your site. It is helpful to find ways to get other people to help you out. There are forums where you can work with other people to share social bookmarking tasks or even pay a fee to get someone to do some social bookmarking for you.

The best approach is to work together with a large number of people where everyone does social bookmarking for each other. This way everyone shares the work but everyone shares the reward of lots of backlinks.

Universal search is ushering in results that include videos, images, news, maps, books and websites. Social networking sites, such as Flikr and Facebook, are making it easier to share photos. You Tube has sky rocketed online videos to another level. If your site offers up visuals, then you need to optimize them. Who wants to miss out on the opportunity to rank more and drive additional traffic? To get you started, i have assembled 2 “How To” top 10 lists to help you capitalize on your website’s pictures and videos.

Optimization for Image Search

1. Give the file a name that clearly represents what the image is. This will help communicate what keywords you are optimizing for with the search engines. Ex. Your picture is of a vacation home on the beach. Name it “vacation beach house.” This is a much better option than a filename like IMG 12345.
2. For the image description tag you will want to use a long description. In the world of SEO, it may be referred to as a “long-tail keyword.” Ex. “3 bedroom vacation beach house in New York.”
3. When you “tag” the photo, make sure your tags/keywords match exactly what the product is or image is representing.
4. Apply short descriptions to ALT tags. Ex. “beach house at Jones Beach.”
5. Save your photos as JPG files.
6. Try making the image path as uncomplicated and short as possible. An example of a good path would be www.examplesite.com/vacation-house. An example of a bad path would be www.examplesite.com/pictures/houses/vacation-house.
7. Be sure the file folder that stores your images is not blocked by the robots.txt file.
8. Page content surrounding the image is a must!
9. Do not add “click to see larger image” within the JavaScript link. This limits what the search engines can access and is a common mistake.
10. Experiment by re-uploading the picture. Image freshness is a clue for the search engines and may affect relevancy.

Use a photo sharing site to get your photos out there and exposed. Want to share your pics? Check out these social media sites that are for photo sharing:
Flickr
MySpace
Facebook
Webshots

Optimization for Video

1. Think of the terms users are likely to be searching for.
2. Surround the video with on-page relevant text. Be sure the video and the content on the page go hand in hand.
3. For videos directly on your site, be sure you put them right off of your root folder.
4. Add a video search on your site.
5. Create a video sitemap. You can create a video sitemap here.
6. Be sure to use keywords when “tagging” the video.
7. Use SEO best practices; use keywords in the title for the video and in the filename for the video.
8. Evaluate other pages on your website where content may be relevant to your video. Create a hyperlink from that page to the page where the video is.
9. Create brand awareness and visibility by embedding and imprinting your brand logo into the video.
10. Be sure to have a social book marking tool on the page the video is placed on. This will help facilitate the distribution of the video.

A few other pieces of information to consider:

• Search engines will block videos that load via a popup.
• If applicable, create “how-to” videos. Submit these videos to social media video sites. These types of informative videos are perfect for viral distribution and can be a great luring tactic that will drive traffic into your site.
• Create an informative and entertaining video experience that will leave your users craving more.

Want to get your videos out there? Here is a list of popular video sharing sites for you to distribute your videos to:
YouTube
Yahoo! Video
Liveleak
Google Video

There you have it! Nothing can replace fundamental SEO strategies, but applying these best practices to your images and videos will give you an extra boost.

When we think about search engine rankings, we consider all aspects of SEO. From keyword research, meta tags optimization and link building to SMO services, we take all the efforts in the right direction. Lot of time we don’t even shy away from spending a lot on these services. But when it’s about web hosting, our general tendency is to avail some “cheap web hosting” services. It is indeed a good marketing effort not to spend so much on a service which can be done on lesser prices. And many-a-times, cheap prices don’t mean cheap and inferior services. But not always! Besides, bad web hosting can also negatively affect your website’s ranking.

How? Read on…

The chances of diminished SERP rankings in this regard are often with Shared Web Hosting. As in Shared Web Hosting many websites are shared on the same IP, it becomes increasingly important to check which websites are sharing your server. Many a times, the so-called “cheap web hosting service providers”, in a quest to earn huge profits, host few unethical websites on the shared server system. And if any of those websites are banned by the search engines, due to any reason what-so-ever, it is likely that your website also gets listed in the ‘Banned Websites’ category of the search engines.

Many search engines blacklist few sites like those of casinos, adult sites and porn sites. When the crawlers are made to visit such banished sites, they track the host server and IP address, and ban them. Unfortunately, if your website is enlisted on the same shared server, chances are that your site gets banned too.

Most obviously, the web hosting companies would deny hosting such sites. It then becomes your responsibility to select a right web host company. Give a thorough check to the company’s credibility; see its client base and fan following, and don’t forget to read its ‘terms and conditions’ policy.

Similarly, while selecting a Domain name for your company, you should keep the SEO factor in mind.

AlexaIt’s always interesting when reading about Alexa’s Page Rank and Google Page Rank.

It’s pretty hard to make any different between Alexa Page Rank and site traffic as it’s closely related. The indication of Alexa page rank is; lower number, higher rank. When you have high traffic to your site means that your Alexa page rank also high (look at this example; 1000000 is higher than 2000000 , 500000 even higher).

If you want to gain some more knowledge about Alexa, you can go directly and visit their website.

Here are most common ways to increase Alexa page rank:

Alexa Ranking• Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. This is the most basic step.

• Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. I did this a few days ago and receive a fair amount of clicks every day. According to some, each click counts as a visit even if the toolbar is not used by the visitor.

• Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar. This includes friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. Be sure to link to Alexa’s full explanation of their toolbar and tracking system so your readers know what installing the toolbar or extension entails.

• Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. Perhaps it will be useful to note that this may work only when dynamic or different IPs are used.

• Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. Not entirely sure of its impact on rankings but it might help in some way.

• Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). This gradually has effects on your Alexa ranking.

• Flaunt your URL in webmaster forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. You’ll get webmasters to visit your website and offer useful feedback. It’s also a good way to give back to the community if you have useful articles to share with others.

• Write content that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domaining and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. Promote your content on social networking websites and webmaster forums.

• Use Alexa redirects on your website URL. Try this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?contactdubai.com . Replace contactdubai.com with the URL for your website. Leave this redirected URL in blog comments as well as forum signatures. This redirect will count a unique IP address once a day so clicking it multiple times won’t help. There is no official proof that redirects positively benefit your Alexa Rank, so use with caution.

• Post in Asian social networking websites or forums. Some webmasters have suggested that East Asian web users are big Alexa toolbar fans, judging by the presence of several Asia-based websites in the Alexa Top 500. I suggest trying this only if you have the time or capacity to do so.

• Create a webmaster tools section on your website. This is a magnet for webmasters who will often revisit your website to gain access to the tools. Aaron Wall’s webpage on SEO Tools is a very good example.

• Get Dugg or Stumbled. This usually brings massive numbers of visitors to your website and the sheer amount will have a positive impact on your Alexa Rank. Naturally, you’ll need to develop link worthy material.

• Use PayperClick Campaigns. Buying advertisements on search engines such as Google or Exact Seek will help bring in Traffic. Doubly useful when your ad is highly relevant to webmasters.

• Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. This acts as an easily accessible resource for webmasters or casual search visitors while helping you rank in the search engines.

• Optimize your popular posts. Got a popular post that consistently receives traffic from the search engines? Include a widget/graph at the bottom of the post, link to your Alexa post or use Alexa redirection on your internal URLs.

• Buy banners and links for traffic from webmaster forums and websites. A prominent and well displayed ad will drive lots of webmaster traffic to your website, which can significantly boost your rank.

• Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. You can easily find posters for hire in Digital Point and other webmaster forums.

• Pay Cybercafe owners to install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as the homepage for all their computers. This might be difficult to arrange and isn’t really a viable solution for most. I’m keeping this one in because some have suggested that it does work.

• Use MySpace . This is a little shady so I don’t recommended it unless you’re really interested in artificially inflating your Alexa Rank. Use visually attractive pictures or banners and link them to your redirected Alexa URL. This will be most effective if your website has content that is actually relevant to the MySpace Crowd.

• Try Alexa auto-surfs. Do they work? Maybe for brand new sites. I think they are mostly suitable for new websites with a very poor Alexa rank. Note that there be problems when you try to use auto surfs alongside contextual ads like Adsense. They aren’t also long term solutions to improving your Alexa Rank so I suggest using with caution.

What is the benefit with high Page Rank site? Your site will visible on Search Engine (top 10 list is best result), when surfer type a certain keywords on search box, and match to what they are looking for, they will possibly visit your site. When other internet surfer does the same thing will be more visitors to your site, what we called high traffic which you can utilize your site to market your products, personal, organization, company purpose and also your popularity. High traffic site can be used as an income source through internet. Happy blogging… :)
